At Cenovus, we use service providers and contractors for specialized jobs across our operations. It is critical that they are as committed to safety as we are, and we have a number of programs that help support them in that.
Safety is part of the decision about who we work with
We use a database called ISNetworld (ISN) to access information on contractors to help us decide which ones we’ll work with. Contractors subscribe to ISN and build a profile for their company. The profile has information about the contractor’s health and safety programs and safety performance. Based on that information, contractors receive an “approved” or “not approved” status. An “approved” status indicates that they have met our health and safety requirements. In order to conduct work for Cenovus, contractors must obtain an ”approved” status.
Monitoring contractor performance
We use a number of tools to monitor and evaluate contractors who work on our sites. We want to ensure that our contractors continue to meet our safety program and performance standards and are doing all they can to prevent injuries. Some of these tools include contractor health and safety audits, spot checks and incident, near miss and hazard reporting.
Rewarding strong commitment and performance
Our Contractor Health & Safety Stewardship Awards program is one of the ways we recognize the commitment our contractor companies make to safety. The awards are given to Cenovus contractors and consultants who have consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to health and safety and have been successful in preventing injuries on our sites. Winners are given a monetary award, which is donated to a charity or non-profit organization of their choice.
