Cenovus Energy Hub opens doors

The grand opening was celebrated on October 1, 2025.

The Cenovus Energy Hub is officially open. The City of Lloydminster, in partnership with Cenovus Energy, has welcomed the community into the state-of-the-art facility designed to serve as a regional cornerstone for sports, recreation and cultural events.

Located between Cenovus Place and the Upgrader on the Saskatchewan side of Lloydminster, the Hub features two NHL-sized ice rinks. The first is a 2,500-seat event arena that can be expanded with floor seating to 4,500-seats for concerts and large events, making it perfect to welcome both provincial and national sporting events and musical acts. The second rink seats 500 and is designed for community games, intended to regularly host junior and minor hockey, figure skating, speedskating and lacrosse clubs.

In addition, next to the building is a multi-use concrete pad that is a basketball court in summer and transforms into an outdoor ice surface in winter.

“Our contribution reflects a longstanding commitment to the Lloydminster region, where we’ve operated for more than 80 years,” says John Soini, Executive Vice-President, Upstream, Thermal & Atlantic Offshore. “We’re proud to be part of this community and expect to be for many years to come. This is home to a great number of our folks and their families and is integral to our company. This donation is a representation of our commitment to the region’s growth and celebrates our long-term relationship.”

Future development around the Hub will include walking trails, slo-pitch diamonds, a park pavilion and camping stalls, further enhancing its role as a regional gathering space.

The City’s leadership in delivering a facility that will serve generations to come is a monumental achievement, and while the Cenovus Energy Hub is operated and managed by the City, we are proud to have played a role in bringing this vision to life.

The grand opening marks a milestone for Lloydminster and the region and a celebration of what collaboration can achieve. The Cenovus Energy Hub promises to be a welcoming space for families, athletes, artists and visitors to gather and engage. There is already a growing partnership between the Hub and the Vic Juba Community Theatre, which will bring even more cultural vibrancy to the region.

As the doors open to this incredible facility, Cenovus remains committed to being a responsible and dedicated community partner.
