John Soini
Executive Vice-President, Upstream – Thermal & Atlantic Offshore
As Executive Vice-President, Upstream – Thermal & Atlantic Offshore, John leads the safe development and operations of Cenovus’s oil sands, thermal and conventional heavy oil assets in Alberta and Saskatchewan, and the company’s assets offshore Atlantic Canada. He oversees optimization opportunities and growth projects at these assets, including the West White Rose project and the Narrows Lake tie-back at Christina Lake.
John has more than 25 years of experience in the energy and power industries, with extensive expertise in megaproject development and execution, strategic planning and commercial operations. He joined Cenovus in 2024 as Senior Vice-President, Major & Capital Projects, and previously worked at Brookfield Infrastructure Partners as a Global Operating Partner, overseeing a portfolio of global assets. Before Brookfield, he also served in executive, operations and major projects roles at NorthRiver Midstream, InterPipeline and Bruce Power Corporation. John started his career at TC Energy, where he spent 20 years in increasingly senior roles, including President of Energy East, Vice-President of the Bruce A Restart Project and Director of Facilities Projects.
John holds diplomas in Mechanical Engineering Technology and Stationary Engineering from Confederation College. He also holds an MBA from the University of Calgary and a certificate in Reactor Technology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
