Strengthening safety and resiliency in our communities through mutual aid
When critical situations arise, having a reliable partner can make all the difference. At Cenovus Energy, we’re committed to being that dependable ally for the communities near our operations. Through mutual aid agreements with towns and cities across Canada and the United States, we’ve built a network of support to help ensure local emergency responders are prepared for unexpected events like wildfires, severe weather or rescuing people in distress.
“Mutual aid agreements are essential for enhancing community resilience and keeping our neighbours safe, especially in smaller communities that may lack the people, infrastructure and equipment needed to respond to certain events,” says Chad Stacey, Senior Emergency Response Team Lead at Cenovus. “Collaborating with local municipalities and emergency services makes us all stronger and demonstrates our desire to be a responsible and proactive community partner.”
These partnerships mean we can quickly offer and receive resources, assistance and services, enhancing our collective emergency preparedness and response capabilities. Over the years, we have provided both in-kind and financial support for emergency resiliency initiatives across our operations. Most recently, we loaned one of our emergency services units to the City of Lloydminster’s fire department and signed an agreement with the Municipality of Wood Buffalo in northern Alberta to support fire and rescue operations. If needed, these agreements also allow for our emergency resources at our operations to be dispatched to support incidents in the community, including the added benefits of sharing information and training resources.
What is a mutual aid agreement?
Mutual aid agreements establish an arrangement in which two or more entities agree to share resources. These voluntary agreements create a symbiotic relationship, particularly during emergencies.
