Primco Dene: A model for First Nations business development in Canada

On June 21, Cenovus proudly hosted National Indigenous Peoples Day celebrations at our Foster Creek and Christina Lake oil sands sites in northern Alberta. As a highlight of the Foster Creek event, we honoured one of our longest-standing Indigenous service companies for reaching a major business milestone.

Primco Dene, owned by the community of Cold Lake First Nations (CLFN), employs over 700 people, 80 percent of whom are Indigenous. Over the years, the company has helped transform CLFN from a community with high unemployment to one with meaningful job opportunities.

This mutually beneficial relationship has been a big part of Cenovus’s success and is a model for Indigenous business development across Canada.
