Our response to COVID-19 at our oil sands field operations
March 2020 – At Cenovus, the health and safety of our people is our number one priority and we have dedicated teams that have been working for many weeks on proactive measures to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in any of our workplaces. We have been in constant contact with public health officials and are getting the latest information and recommendations directly from them about how to respond to COVID-19.
We have reduced the number of non-critical staff at our oil sands field operations by having staff who are able to work from home. We’ve taken many preventive steps to protect the health of our staff who remain at our Christina Lake and Foster Creek operations by implementing enhanced cleaning measures across all common areas and individual rooms, we have closed all gym facilities, set up additional hand sanitizer stations and propped open select doors to reduce common touchpoints.
To assist staff with social distancing we have staggered mealtimes, reduced seating capacity at tables in the dining room, and implemented a continuous sanitization process for tables and chairs between uses. We have also individually wrapped food that was previously self-served to reduce potential cross-contamination.
To keep our staff as safe as possible while travelling to our operations we have worked with our transportation service providers to have additional cleaning protocols put in place for our buses and aircraft, as well as our airport locations in Calgary, Edmonton and the Leismer Aerodrome in northern Alberta. To increase social distancing, additional aircraft are in service to reduce passenger loads and we have implemented reduced seating capacity for on-site busing to one person per row.
We believe we are well positioned to maintain the safe and reliable operation of our business through this COVID-19 pandemic. We will continue to monitor the situation and take further steps to respond, as required.
