Cenovus is recycling wastewater from its oil sands camps

We're recycling wastewater at our Foster Creek and Christina Lake camps.

November 2018 – We're recycling camp wastewater at our oil sands operations in northern Alberta. We used to truck the water away for disposal but now we treat and reuse it at our sites for drilling wells, making ice roads in the winter and suppressing dust in the summer.

At our Foster Creek and Christina Lake facilities, we reuse over 60 million litres of treated wastewater each year. That’s the equivalent of about 25 Olympic-sized swimming pools. That’s good for the environment and for our bottom line.
