We’ve been recognized with Canada’s Volunteer Award!

August 2020 - Cenovus has been recognized by the Federal Government with the 2019 Canada’s Volunteer Award (CVA) in the category of Business Leader in the prairie region.

“The CVAs recognize volunteers and bring national attention to the contributions that individuals, not-for-profit organizations, social enterprises and businesses make to their communities through volunteering,” explains Megan Marshall, Senior Community Programs Advisor. “Being recognized for this award is a huge honor. We know our staff and their families believe in giving back and getting involved in their communities and we are committed to offering programs that encourage and support their efforts.”

Canada Volunteers AwardThis is the first time Cenovus has received this award. We were nominated by the Calgary Youth Justice Society, an organization we’ve partnered with for the last 10 years, and our application was supported by the Children’s Cottage, the Calgary Police Foundation and I Can for Kids.

For Cenovus, giving back isn’t just about writing a cheque. We know that to truly make a positive difference in the communities where we live and work, we must be both invested and involved. And a big part of that means providing our employees with opportunities to give back. Our Volunteer Program encourages and supports the volunteer efforts of staff by:

  • Giving grants to the organizations where staff and their family members volunteer
  • Organizing events where staff and their families can lend a hand
  • Providing charitable team-building activities
  • Connecting staff with opportunities to develop professionally and share their skills, expertise and knowledge with community organizations

“This year has been an anomaly for giving and volunteering in the community. Between the economic impact of low oil prices and the effects of COVID-19, the charitable sector has seen an increase in demand for their services, while facing decreased funding and volunteer support,” says Marshall. “I am happy we were able to find new ways to partner with the non-profit sector to address social challenges while providing opportunities for our staff to do the same, and would like to thank Cenovus staff for participating in our volunteer and giving opportunities now, and year-round.”
