Serving up smiles with the Cenovus Breakfast Program
Working with the Jimmy Pratt Memorial Outreach Centre in St. John’s, NL, our Cenovus Breakfast Program has been providing nutritious breakfasts for community members every Monday morning since 2012. Serving residents of the downtown area, the Centre provides a place where people can access services to help improve their health and welfare.
Cenovus has supported the Centre for the last decade with an annual donation of $15,000 and encourages employees to volunteer their time as part of our Employee Giving and Volunteering Program, Cenovus Cares.
“I’m proud to have been involved in the Cenovus Breakfast Program since 2018,” says Earl Reid, Senior Subsea Installation Engineer at Cenovus. “Volunteering with this program helps me support my community by providing food and encouragement to people who may need some extra help. It also gives me the opportunity to interact and build meaningful relationships with people in the community and fellow volunteers.”
In supporting this program, we have been able to serve up to 120 breakfasts every Monday to vulnerable people in the St. John’s downtown area. In the 10 years since we have been involved, organizers estimate the program has served approximately 41,000 meals.
“Cenovus is an essential component of our breakfast program at the Jimmy Pratt Memorial Outreach Centre. For the past 10 years, volunteers from Cenovus have been a constant feature – working alongside our volunteers to provide stability for the success and growth of this important weekly hot breakfast program,” explains George Parsons, Program Manager at the Centre.
“Through Cenovus’s financial and volunteer support, the partnership has had a real impact in our community, providing not only a hot meal but a safe place for our clients to socialize in a warm, welcoming environment.”
