Learning from teams across the organization: Fuel student Brooklyn Stevenson

Brooklyn Stevenson

Brooklyn Stevenson, 4th year Business student at Mount Royal University, initially heard about the Cenovus Fuel student and new graduate program through her co-op coordinator and immediately applied.

“I had heard positive things about Cenovus from family and classmates before I applied for the program,” says Brooklyn. “In the interview, I never felt like I was in front of a stiff panel – the interviewers made me feel comfortable which helped me have a good experience from the start.”

Currently working on the Cenovus Talent Acquisition team, Brooklyn is helping with a project to establish new methods of virtually recruiting students for the upcoming year. Even though she has only been working at Cenovus for a short time, she has been amazed at the opportunities to learn about the company by communicating with a variety of teams.

“I’ve only been here a month, but I’ve learned a great deal about both Cenovus and Talent Acquisition,” says Brooklyn. “One of my biggest learnings so far has been the importance of a thorough project proposal and making sure you have all the details organized so an outsider with no previous knowledge on the subject can easily understand the subject matter.”

While the COVID-19 pandemic has shifted Brooklyn’s work term from how it would normally look, she has used this opportunity to be creative and connect with her team through different communication channels. “Even though COVID-19 changed how my work term played out, it has not deterred from the experience I have had at Cenovus so far,” says Brooklyn.

With her work term ending in September, Brooklyn is excited to showcase all the work she has done throughout summer at the end-of-term presentation in front of the Cenovus Leadership Team.

“Cenovus has given me the experience to not only work independently on projects that I am interested in, but also has given me the chance to work with other departments and learn from them,” explains Brooklyn. “Having knowledge about departments outside of Human Resources will help me in my future as I pursue a career in the field of Talent Acquisition.”
