Cenovus Cares: Helping provide humanitarian relief in Ukraine

April 2022 - The humanitarian crisis in Ukraine has moved staff at Cenovus Energy to find ways to help.

Through Cenovus Cares, our Employee Giving and Volunteering Program, staff have been encouraged to donate to the relief funds set up by the Canadian Red Cross and American National Red Cross. Donations to these appeals are helping to support immediate and on-going relief efforts, and critical humanitarian activities as required.

“The situation in Ukraine is something that’s been on all our minds. We talk about it in the kitchens and halls, and I know it’s affected people,” says Jonathan Brown, Senior Vice-President, Atlantic Region. “It puts into sharp perspective how very lucky we are to live where we do and to enjoy the freedoms we have.”

Many staff have contributed to the Red Cross funds and are also giving in other ways, such as participating in fundraisers set up by local organizations and schools, and collecting and donating supplies and gently used clothing that will be sent directly to Ukraine or provided to families as they arrive in Canada.

“I am not sure I would be able to quickly adapt to this sudden, unexpected and horrible life change. I am honoured to show my support by donating, especially when I have been given so much,” says Pam Morris, Manager, Business, Engineering and Operational Excellence at Cenovus.

Through Cenovus Cares, we have collectively donated more than $330,000 to the appeals to date and continue to show our support.
