Sustainable communities

Investing in Aboriginal communities

The future relies on healthy and resilient communities that respect the environment and preserve local traditions. By partnering with organizations that foster environmental conservation and economic development, we contribute to the strength and sustainability that will fuel healthy growth in communities for years to come.

Engaged in our communities

Inside Education

Since 2009 Cenovus has supported Inside Education whose mandate is to help Canadian teachers and students better understand the science, technology and issues related to our environment and natural resources. Through balanced and engaging programs and services, Inside Education seeks to inspire teachers and students to become engaged stewards of the environment while understanding the importance and complexities of our natural resources sector. In addition to financial support, Cenovus has supported Inside Education by providing tours of our facilities and technical knowledge over the years.

Arts Commons - National Geographic Live

Since 2011, Cenovus has been the student engagement sponsor for National Geographic Live, whose goal through the student matinee series is to inspire thousands of students annually to learn and care about the planet. National Geographic Live is a distinguished speaker series featuring dynamic speakers, considered among the best in their fields.  Using award-winning photographs and video, these modern storytellers share adventures from the field, reporting on a wide range of conservation topics. National Geographic Live speakers' messages of exploration, discovery and conservation are unparalleled sources of content and inspiration for student audiences, reaching more than 45,000 participants to date.

The Calgary Stampede

Through a variety of avenues, the Calgary Stampede preserves and celebrates our communities’ western heritage, cultures and community spirit year round. As a longtime supporter of the Calgary Stampede, Cenovus has contributed to the culture of volunteerism and giving back. Most recently, Cenovus contributed to the building of the Cenovus Legacy Trail which connects Stampede park to our environment along the elbow river as well as our history. The Cenovus Legacy Trail is also part of the Trans Canada Trail, a cross-country network that links our communities together.
