Small improvements make a big impact on safety
At Cenovus, we're committed to creating an injury free workplace, which means regularly evaluating our processes and day-to-day activities to ensure we're making smart choices.
In an effort to improve safety on the access road to our Foster Creek facility we recently implemented a set of changes to reduce the volume, speed and size of traffic on the road. We've employed a voluntary curfew on vehicles over five tonnes during peak periods, as well as a mandatory reduced speed limit for night-time driving. We believe these small but important adjustments will have a positive impact and help prevent motor vehicle incidents.
And it's positive changes like these that lead to success in safety. Our Southern Plains Business Unit just recorded Cenovus's best safety score in five years. Teams in that area have reduced the number of work-related injuries significantly, from 1.61 out of every 100 workers in 2005 to 0.75 in 2009.
