First steam at Grand Rapids
Portable boilers and other infrastructure at the Grand Rapids SAGD pilot project site
In December, 2010, we reached a major milestone at one of our emerging projects, achieving first steam at our Grand Rapids pilot. We're anticipating beginning oil production at the pilot in the first quarter of 2011.
The Grand Rapids pilot is located in the Greater Pelican region, about 300 kilometres north of Edmonton. The project is adjacent to our Pelican Lake Wabiskaw operation and is taking advantage of the existing facilities.
Results from the six-to-24-month pilot will give us a better understanding of the performance of SAGD in the formation. If successful, this pilot could lead to a regulatory application for a commercial SAGD operation at Grand Rapids with potential capacity of producing 180,000 barrels of oil per day.
