August 2016 – Cenovus contractor Redrock camps provides our Pelican Lake oil operation staff with clean rooms and good meals. And they do it with great attention to safety.
That’s why we recently recognized them, along with 40 other Cenovus contractors for outstanding safety performance through the Cenovus Health & Safety Stewardship Awards Program.
“Our contractors’ commitment to safety is a major reason why we had our best safety performance as a company in 2015,” says Mark Little, Vice-President, Health & Safety. “The organizations recognized this year, and the Cenovus staff who nominated them, can take great pride in being a part of that accomplishment.”
RedRock’s team embraces the health and safety expectations of Cenovus, taking the initiative to ensure safety requirements are followed and proactively addressing potential issues. For Cenovus, success is every employee, contractor and service provider going home safely at the end of the day.
“RedRock has created a culture where staff feel empowered to raise concerns and ask questions,” says Ian Opelik, Senior Health & Safety Advisor. “Their strong leadership and dedicated employees allow for better work and safety practices which reduce employee turnover and ultimately contribute to their success as a company.”
The safety award program ties together two of Cenovus’s commitments: working safely and strengthening the communities where we live and work. Each recipient company received $1,000 to give to a charity or non-profit organization that’s important to them. A total of $41,000 was donated to 31 organizations across Alberta and Saskatchewan.
