You may be familiar with images of oil sands mining operations from seeing them on TV or in print publications. We’d like to introduce you to a different kind of oil sands – one that uses specialized technology to drill and pump the oil to the surface. The principal technology we use at our oil sands operations is called steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD – pronounced SAG-DEE).

Foster Creek, our largest SAGD project, is featured in this ad. It is considered to be among the best commercial and technical SAGD projects in the industry.

  • Foster Creek produced an average of approximately 110,000 barrels of oil per day gross in 2011
  • The oil in the reservoir at Foster Creek is 475 metres below the surface
