Don Swystun
Executive Vice-President, Refining, Marketing, Transportation & Development
As Executive Vice-President, Refining, Marketing, Transportation & Development, Don is responsible for new market development, transportation arrangements, commodity fundamentals, hedging and downstream operations, including integration solutions, major projects, refinery optimization, performance management, and long-term development.
Prior to his current role, Don was Executive Vice-President and President, Canadian Plains and responsible for the development of the company's legacy properties in Alberta and Saskatchewan. He also oversaw the company's business services, and oil and gas marketing activities. The company's divisional structure was changed in late 2010 to better align our operations with our 10-year business plan.
Don joined the company in 1995 as a reservoir engineer. He was appointed Vice-President in 1999 and led the shallow gas and heavy oil operations in southeast Alberta and southwest Saskatchewan. In 2001, Don assumed leadership of the company's Ecuador operations. In 2006, as Executive Vice-President for Corporate Development, Don was responsible for the creation of the integrated oil partnership agreement with ConocoPhillips.
Don graduated with distinction from the University of Alberta in 1983, with a Bachelor of Science degree in petroleum engineering. He is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists, and Geophysicists of Alberta, the Society of Petroleum Engineers, and the University of Alberta Business Advisory Council.
